Sourdough Starter made from 12 year old starter using Shipton Mill Organic flour

Made in Green Cottages Kitchen by Monique (kitchen awarded 5 stars from Environmental Health). We are members of Produced In Kent  and the Real Bread Campaign. We regularly bake and sell our own bread, cakes and preserves. 

For the last 8 years Green Cottages Kitchen has taught baking and cookery workshops, specialising in Sourdough and bread making. 

This starter means you can get straight on your Sourdough baking journey, without the faff of creating your own starter dough. It’s NOT dehydrated.  It’s ready to go. 

This Sourdough starter can be used as a “Mother” and perpetually fed (provided it is kept in the fridge) or it can simply be used as a one off cooking ingredient to make a pre-ferment for a batch of loaves. If you don’t want to keep/ feed it simply purchase a jar as required. The choice is yours.

Instructions for how to care for your starter dough are included.  We sell 4 variations:
(1) “Starter only” - starter dough with care instructions or
(2) “Starter+Bread Recipe” - starter dough with care instructions + Sourdough Bread recipe or
(3) “Starter+Pizza Recipe” - starter dough with care instructions + Sourdough Pizza recipe or
(4) “Starter+Bread & Pizza” - starter dough with care instructions + Sourdough Bread recipe +Sourdough Pizza recipe

If you opt for our recipes they are easy to follow; they are the recipes we use when we teach bread and pizza making in our workshops.  If you are a beginner we strongly recommend buying the version with one or two recipes.  

Ingredients; Organic white WHEAT flour with added Calcium Carbonate, Nicotinamide, Iron and Thiamine, Water, naturally occuring yeast

ALLERGY ADVICE: For allergens see ingredients in BOLD/CAPITALS

Approx 85g weight - remember its not the quantity that is important but the yeast content!

The starter contains live active natural yeast.  It will bubble and release gas so jars are partially filled to allow for bubbly expansion space during travel.

You may have heard about discarding sourdough starter. I don’t advocate discard, hence why my recipes and guidance don’t include any reference to it. There’s no need to discard and besides it wastes flour and starter dough. I’m particularly conscious about food waste.

Please note we have a Best Before End date 4 weeks from dispatch; we advise this product is made up before the BBE to ensure the yeast remain active.  If you are buying this item as a present please request a delayed dispatch date a few days before you intend to give the item.
